Services
Therapy and Counseling
The Center's therapy staff is experienced in treating a broad scope of emotional issues and mental health problems for children and adults. Therapists help each of their clients assess, understand, and work toward resolution of their problems.
Outpatient Psychiatry
The Center's Psychiatry staff of an Adult Psychiatrist, a Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist, a Nurse Practitioner and three Registered Nurses conduct mental health assessments, develops treatment plans, and provides medication management services.
Outreach Services
Adults with Persistent and Serious Mental Illnesses can access the following in-home and in-community services:
- Supported Community Living: provides individualized services and supports that enable a mentally ill person to live, work, and recreate in community settings; services relate directly to managing a serious and persistent mental illness while living independently.
- Home Based Habilitation Services and Day Habilitation Services: available to Medicaid eligible consumers diagnosed with mental illness. This consists of individualized services and supports that assist with the acquisition, retention, or improvement in skills related to living in the community.
- Community Support Services: are intended to maximize a consumer's psychiatric care. This includes monitoring mental health symptoms and functioning, and developing a crisis plan. This service also assists consumers in attending psychiatric appointments and obtaining medications, Services are provided by Outreach Workers, and take place primarily in the consumer's home.
- Day Habilitation Groups: have a social and recreational focus, and are designed to be flexible and meet a variety of individual needs including increasing time spent in social situations, making friends, developing leisure and recreational interests and improving social skills.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Services
An EAP is designed by an employer to provide a wellness benefit for employees. It enables employees to obtain professional counseling help for personal or emotional problems. Such programs give employees easy, no-cost access to confidential professional assessment, brief counseling, and referral services. An employer designs its EAP program to fit its respective human resources goals. The Richmond Center contracts with Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames Public Schools and Wheatsfield Grocery to provide EAP services.
Clubhouse
The Clubhouse was created in 1998 as a meeting place for those citizens of Carroll County who have been diagnosed with a persistent mental illness. The Clubhouse provides peer support and socialization for its members in a safe, accepting environment. During the hours the Clubhouse is open, members may drop in at any time in order to use the facilities. Members have access to the Clubhouse's exercise equipment, billiard table, library, stereo, television and video equipment, computer including internet access, kitchen and more. There is no requirement for members of the Clubhouse to be involved in any other services at The Richmond Center.
Crisis Intervention
1-800-830-7009 The Center offers 24-hour crisis intervention services every day of the year. During the Center's business hours, a person in crisis can be assisted by telephone or by coming to the Center. After business hours, a person can utilize the Center's crisis intervention telephone service.
Education and Prevention Services
As a community-based mental health organization, the Center works to increase community awareness about mental health, mental disorders, and available preventative measures and treatments. It also works to reduce the stigma around seeking help for mental health problems. In addition, the Center offers no-cost mental health screening opportunities to the public several times per year.
