Our Staff
The Richmond Center outpatient staff includes the following:

Each licensed mental health provider has at least five years of experience, and most have been in the profession for 15-20 years. They all hold Iowa licenses.

Staff members who provide in-home and in-community services have bachelor degrees in disciplines related to human services. Most of them have been providing services for 3-8 years.

All of the Center's mental health professionals work as a team to serve the needs of it clients and the community. All services are confidential, client-focused, and delivered in a considerate and respectful manner.

Psychiatry

Dr. Terrence Augspurger, M.D.
Psychiatrist

Dr. Terence Augspurger, M.D., is a Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist providing part time consultation to the Richmond Center seeing children and teenagers for evaluation and medical treatment. He is an Iowa native who spent 15 years at the University of Iowa where he attended the Liberal Arts and Medical Colleges. He then received training and performed teaching duties at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Augspurger has held various consulting positions throughout Iowa the past 20 years. He currently serves as psychiatrist to The Boys and Girls State Training School in Eldora, The Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo, Woodward Academy on the Woodward Hospital School campus, and Center Associates in Marshalltown in additon to his position in Ames at the Richmond Center. He is a fellow in the American Psychiatric Association and a past president of the Iowa Psychiatric Society. His extensive training and clinical experience provide additional expertise to the treatment staff working with youth at the Richmond Center.


Jolene Baker
Registered Nurse

Jolene provides the general phone screening to help with psychiatric assessments and medication education. This services Story, Boone, and Greene counties as well as to the community settings. Jolene received her 4 year Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. Her career life of over 30 years has primarily been in Psychiatry either in hospital or clinical nursing. She has held positions of assistant supervisor or head nurse and staff nurse.


Marilyn Paplow
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Marilyn serves in assessment and diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. She has prescriptive authority and recommends appropriate psychiatric medication. She is credentialed in psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, and community health nursing. Marilyn received her Masters in Community Health Nursing from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D. She completed her Masters in Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practictioner through The College of St. Scholastica at Duluth, MN. She has worked in geriatric care facilities, home health environments, rural hospitals, parish nursing, and acute care psychiatric hospitals in both Minnesota and Iowa. Her preceptorships include substance abuse inpatient settings, community mental health settings, and sex offender community based treatment settings. She has served as clinical psychiatric instructor for the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D.


Susan Stanton
Registered Nurse

Susan Stanton assists the Center's psychiatry staff with medical assessments and treatments. She also oversees the Center's indigent medicine program and provides medication education and monitoring services to clients. Susan's nursing experience includes inpatient services and 26 years of general medical experience. She holds a Bachelor's degree in religious studies from Iowa State University and an Associate's degree in nursing from Northern Kentucky University. Susan joined the Richmond Center in 1998 and serves clients at the Center's Ames office.


Robert Stern, D.O.
Psychiatrist

Dr. Stern is one of The Richmond Center psychiatrists specializing in Chronic Mental Illness. He provides psychiatric evaluations and makes recommendations for medication treatment. He received his medical training in Texas, worked as a General Practice doctor in Florida, and completed his psychiatric residency at Cherokee Mental Health Center. He has worked at several Iowa Mental Health Centers over the past 10 years. He has recently returned to Iowa from Rochester, New York where he served as staff psychiatrist at Rochester Psychiatric Center, as well as Senior Clinical instructor for University of Rochester Medical School.


Kathi Stoops
Registered Nurse

Kathi Stoops provides community mental health nursing services in Story and Greene counties. She also oversees the Center's clozaril program. She has extensive experience working with the chronically mentally ill in hospital, clinic, and community settings. Prior to joining the Center in 1993, she worked at a psychiatric facility as a lead nurse and case manager on the adult and adolescent inpatient and partial hospitalization units. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Health Arts from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and an Associate's degree in Nursing from Des Moines Area Community College.
